  1. Although I agree the poor are our responsibility, the concept of simply “reaching out” beyond our personal needs and wants might put us one step closer to helping those in need. Sometimes people are resistant (and fearful) of the word “poor.”

      1. Many people live a sheltered life. They don’t understand the mindset of different people and different cultures. The first reaction is commonly FEAR. Sometimes it is better to take 1 extra second to RESPOND rather than REACT. As our world reaches out (not to simply provide handouts) but to help teach people to provide for themselves and offer ongoing guidance to make certain they learn, the FEAR of robbery or alcohol abuse dissipates. The need to survive at another’s expense no longer exists.
